Finding your way in.
Walk in before you walk in. Every step from the street to the room, in photos and video, so you can plan the visit, know what is coming, and spend your energy on the session rather than the building.
Not knowing what a place is like is a reason people never arrive.
For a lot of the people we work with, the hardest part of therapy is not the therapy. It is the door: the unknown street, the unknown room, the stranger at the desk, the sound and the light and the not knowing where to sit. Autistic and ADHD nervous systems, and nervous systems shaped by trauma, spend a great deal of energy on that uncertainty. Some people never get past it.
So this page shows you everything. Where to get off the tram, what the door looks like, where you can wait without being seen, which chair is yours. If a detail you need is not here, ring us on (03) 7042 9820 or email hello@liminalclinic.com.au and we will tell you, and add it to the page for the next person.
If any answer on this page is a no, we say so plainly. People can plan around a clear no. They cannot plan around a silence.

In the order you would see things on the day. Videos are silent walk-throughs; photos were taken with the lights on and nobody in the building.

From the street
386 Malvern Road, Prahran. We are inside BeingWell, a shared health building between the Prahran police station and The Victoria Clinic, with Aura Café at the front.
The 72 tram stops about a minute away: we sit between stops 32 and 33, so there is a stop in each direction on our side of the road and you do not need to cross. Both are kerbside stops, not raised platforms. Hawksburn station is about five to seven minutes on foot, but its ramps are steep and there is no lift.
Parking is one hour on Malvern Road and two hours on the side streets. There is no accessible bay. If your appointment runs the full fifty minutes, the side streets are the safer bet.

The front door, and one step
There is a single step up from the footpath at the door. We can put a portable ramp out for it if you ask when you book. The door is not locked during reception hours.
This is the video most people want: the whole walk from the door to the room in one take, so there are no surprises on the day.

Aura Café
The café is at the front of the building and is open until 3pm on weekdays. If waiting rooms are hard, you can wait here instead and walk through when it is time. The café entrance has one step too.

Reception and checking in
You do not have to speak to anyone to check in. Use the tablet at reception, or the link we text and email you an hour before an in-person appointment. Either way you can walk in, sit down, and nobody needs to say your name out loud.
If you would rather check in with a person, reception is staffed Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9am to 2pm. Outside those hours your psychologist comes out to get you at your appointment time.
The waiting area has a mix of seating. A partner, parent, friend, support worker or interpreter is welcome to wait with you or come into the room; let us know beforehand so there is somewhere for them to sit.

Three steps up
Between reception and the rooms there are three steps with handrails on both sides. There is no ramp and no lift for these, so the therapy room is not wheelchair accessible. We would rather you know that now than find out on the day. If you use a wheelchair, or stairs are a problem, telehealth is available and works well; please ring us before you book so we can sort it out together.

The hallway and the bathrooms
The hallway runs past the bathrooms to the rooms. There is an accessible toilet, it is not locked, and you do not need to ask for a key. The other toilets are marked by gender. Use whichever one you want to use; nobody here will question it.

The quiet area
A smaller, quieter space away from reception. If you arrive early, or need a minute before or after a session, you can sit here. Ask at reception, or just use it.

The room
This is where sessions happen. You can sit facing the door, keep it ajar, and choose either chair. There are fidgets and plush toys in the room, and a session timer (a Timeqube) on the table so you can see how much time is left without asking or watching a clock.
Bring water, a blanket, headphones or anything else that helps. If the light or the sound of the room is a problem, tell us and we will change what we can.

Things people ask before their first visit.
What if I am early?
Sit in the waiting area, the quiet area, or the café at the front. Nobody will hurry you in.
What if I am late?
Come anyway. The session runs to its scheduled end time, and we would rather see you for thirty minutes than not at all.
Will someone say my name out loud?
Not if you check in on the tablet or by the link. Your psychologist will come and find you and can use whatever you have asked to be called.
Can I bring someone with me?
Yes. A partner, parent, friend, support worker or interpreter is welcome, in the waiting area or the room. Tell us beforehand so there is a seat for them.
Is there somewhere to be alone before a session?
The quiet area, down the hallway. Ask at reception or just use it.
What about the police station next door?
We mention it because some people would rather know before they arrive than after. It is a separate building and has nothing to do with us.
Can I do this by video instead?
Yes. Telehealth by video is available for most of what we do. We prefer cameras on; if that is a barrier for you, say so before you book and we will talk through what is possible.
Will there be a floor plan?
That is next on the list: an architectural-style drawing of the building so you can see the whole space at once. Until then, the videos above cover every part of the route.
